PET/CT is two imaging systems in one, so the buying checklist is longer and more technical than a straight CT. Here's what matters.

Evaluate both engines

• PET detectors — condition and performance; this is the heart of the PET side.
• CT tube — remaining life, exactly as you'd check on any CT scanner.

Shielding and siting

PET/CT rooms have real requirements: radiation shielding, structural load for a heavy gantry, and practical access to a radiopharmaceutical supply. Confirm your site can meet them before you buy, or budget for the buildout.

Software, licenses, and support

Check the software version, the licensed applications, and whether they transfer. Advanced oncology and cardiac packages can be expensive to add after the fact.
